T-Mobile USA Hits 43% IPv6, Verizon Wireless at 59%, AT&T at 25% in Oct 2014 Measurements

More great IPv6 news this month with the October 2014 World IPv6 Launch measurements.  As our colleague Mat Ford notes, T-Mobile USA entered the “top 10” networks this month and has grown from 5% to 43% IPv6 within the last 12 months!  Congrats to the whole team there at T-Mobile USA!

T-Mobile USA

Verizon Wireless’ relentless increase continued, too, driven by their growth of their IPv6-based LTE network. They are now flirting with the 60% mark… so you can probably anticipate my headline next month!

Continuing the trend in North American networks, AT&T, too, saw a nice increase, coming in at 24.99% (so let’s call that 25%, eh?):

The growth in IPv6 was global, of course, and in the top networks Deutsche Telekom showed a nice growth line at 28.05%:

Mat Ford also noted in his post that SKTelecom, one of the largest South Korean mobile network operators, has just started an IPv6 rollout and so we should see their growth over the next while.

UPDATE: For AT&T, I changed the introductory text from “North American mobile networks” to “North American networks” after Will Dean raised a question in the comments.   Looking at the AS numbers of the AT&T networks measured by the World IPv6 Launch measurements, it looks like they are probably all fixed line services offered by AT&T.

Are you sure the AT&T numbers are from their mobile network?

They have 6rd and native depending on which wireline service you have.

I haven’t heard of any IPv6 deployment on their mobile division.

Will – very good point. The World IPv6 Launch measurments site says that the measurements are of AS’:

6389, 7018, 7132

And if I look at who those are registered to:

7018 – ATT-INTERNET4, AT&T Services
7132 – SBIS-AS – AT&T Internet Services

Now, I don’t know AT&T’s internal structure but I see they have a wide array of other AS registrations – and several with “Wireless” or “Mobility” in the name.

You are probably right that these are for the fixed services. I’ll update the post.

Thanks for pointing it out!

in the latest akamai stat’s the Belgian cable operator Telenet shows a nice 43% of v6 traffic. Telenet is probably the operator with the highest penetration of IPv6 in it’s residential customer base.(google stat’s)
Telenet (AS 6848) has 1,5 M internet customers.
