The AfriNIC21 meeting, held in Mauritius last week brought us some development and advancement in the AfBCOP efforts (Africa Best Current Operational Practices). Douglas Onyango, co-chair of AfBCOP reported about the activities in the following words:
AfBCOP has just concluded another very successful session at the AFRINIC-21 meeting in Mauritius. The BCOP update was part of the technical presentations made during the meeting.
Jan Zorz, from ISOC, who is also the co-chair of RIPE BCOP TF presented a status update from RIPE BCOP, as well as a global update.
Shortly after him, Douglas Onyango, AFBCOP co-chair provided an update of activities in the region. The highlights from the region include:
Co-Chair Selection: Fiona Asonga from KIXP was announced as the co-chair for AfBCOP. This announcement means better momentum in advancing AFBCOP’s agenda on the continent.
Policy Drafts: IPv6 Q&A is being drafted by Alfred and Barry Macharia. This document should be online in the next month and will be presented for debate during AIS 2015 in Tunisia.
Session and BoF in Tunisia: Another session where BCOP drafts will be discussed will happen in Tunisia. During the same meeting we look forward to a BoF, where we can share experiences locally and also with similar initiatives from other regions.
We look forward to lively online deliberation and a face-to-face meeting during AIS 2015 in Tunisia.
A video recording is available on the Afrinic21 VOD portal. Click on “Thursday”, then “Technical presentations”. You can skip to 44:37 if you wish to see just the BCOP presentation.
