In just a few short days, on July 7 and 8, 2015, I will join with thousands of Internet Society members in “InterCommunity 2015“, our first global meeting of Internet Society members. I will soon be in Auckland, New Zealand, with the Internet Society Board of Trustees, but will be joining with you all in your homes, offices, and also in regional “nodes” across the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Asia Pacific.
This is a global membership meeting held ON the Internet, for the Internet. Wherever you are in the world you will be able to join in and participate. You will be able to communicate with the Internet Society Board of Trustees, exchange ideas with other members and share your views on the critical issues facing the Internet today and in the future.
It’s an ambitious undertaking and something we’ve never done before. We have an extraordinary global community and we’re looking forward to using the power of the Internet to bring together the strength of that community.
During the several hours of the event we’ll focus the discussions around three key areas:
- Internet governance
- improving the security and trust in the Internet
- efforts to ensure every person in the world has access to the opportunities available on the Internet
We’ll also be launching our 2015 Global Internet Report and I believe many of you will find some of the information insightful and thought-provoking.
As serious as we all may be, we’ll also have some opportunities for fun and enjoying the connections we share. We’ve got some great videos and other materials to share that I think you’ll enjoy.
Working together, we can use our collective strength to address these urgent issues and unleash the full potential of this amazing Internet!
As one of my colleagues says… it’s gonna be great!
