Today is “Day 0” of the 2015 Internet Governance Forum (IGF2015) with a great amount of activity already underway in João Pessoa, Brazil. You can follow along all week with links off of our IGF 2015 page at:
In particular note that we have a page about remote participation where you can find out how to join in via WebEx, follow along on social media or get to a remote hub to join in with other remote attendees.
There is a great amount of Internet Society activity at IGF 2015 which we have captured in this schedule:
Do note that the times are Brasilia Time (BRT) which is UTC-3. For example, a 9:00am meeting there is 7:00am in US Eastern and 1:00pm in Central Europe.
There are three main events happening for us today:
- ISOC Community Meeting On WSIS+10 – From 13:00-14:00 BRT we’ll be gathering with Internet Society members, partners and more to talk about the 10-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). As Nicolas Seidler sent in an email:
This meeting will be focused on the WSIS+10 Review, which will conclude in December with a UN General Assembly High-Level event and outcome. It will be an opportunity to exchange perspectives on key issues within the negotiations between all stakeholders, including the private sector, civil society and the Internet technical community. We invite all interested stakeholders to attend and participate in this open discussion.
You can join remotely by going to the IGF Forum Webcast page for Workshop Room 2 and clicking on the “9 November” link. You’ll need to enter your name and email address and then you’ll be able to join.
- High Level Leaders Meeting – From 14:00-18:00 our President and CEO Kathy Brown will be among the participants in this session. You can join in remotely via the Main Meeting Hall link for 9 November.
- Collaborative Leadership Exchange – For the entire day (08:00-18:00), our Internet Leadership team will be working with our 2015 IGF Ambassadors. (Read more about this program in this post from Niel Harper.)
While all this is happening, of course, other ISOC staff, trustees and volunteers will be preparing for the busy schedule of IGF 2015 Day 1!
If you are on the ground in Brazil, please do stop by our Internet Society booth and say hello. If you are remote (as I am), please do follow our @InternetSociety social media accounts to stay up on our activities.
Please also read Kathy Brown’s blog post about WHY this IGF 2015 is so incredibly important.
After many months of preparation we’re very excited that this 10th IGF is under way!
